The Fusion of Art and Algorithm

This interdisciplinary course examines the dissolving boundary between the artist’s intuition and the computer’s logic. It focuses on “Algorithmic Aesthetics”—how mathematical rules can be used to generate beauty, chaos, and structure. Students will study the history of computer art, engage with generative coding frameworks, and develop a personal philosophy on the role of the algorithm as a co-creator rather than just a tool.

§ 01 By the end you can
  1. Trace the genealogy of algorithmic art from Islamic geometric patterns to modern AI
  2. Master the logic of procedural generation (noise, randomness, recursion)
  3. Create artwork using code-based frameworks (Processing/P5.js) and AI tools
  4. Analyze the tension between "Control" and "Surprise" in generative systems
  5. Curate an exhibition that visualizes the dialogue between human and machine
