Mould Making
This course introduces techniques for creating moulds and casts using plaster, silicone, clay, and other materials. Students learn to capture form accurately, build mould structures, mix casting materials, and produce finished replicas and sculptural components.
§ 01 By the end you can
- Create single-part and multi-part moulds using plaster, silicone, and clay.
- Understand material behavior, curing times, and mould-release methods.
- Cast forms accurately using plaster, resin, or other materials.
- Solve structural and technical challenges in mould construction.
- Produce finished cast forms demonstrating precision and surface quality.
§ 02 Sixteen sessions
The whole semester.
- 01Introduction to Mould Making
- 02Tools, Materials & Safety Protocols
- 03Understanding Mould Types: One-Part, Two-Part & Multi-Part
- 04Preparing Originals & Applying Release Agents
- 05Plaster Mould Techniques
- 06Silicone Mould Techniques
- 07Clay Moulds & Temporary Supports

§ 03 Final project
Students will create two functional moulds (plaster or silicone) and produce at least one clean cast for each mould, demonstrating accuracy and surface refinement.
Deliverables
- Two functional mould (one-part or multi-part).
- One or more finished casts for each mould.
- Process documentation including photos and notes on problem-solving.
More in Fine Arts
| Abstract & Impressionist Painting | This course explores Impressionist and Abstract painting traditions through color, gesture, texture, light, and expressive mark-making. |
| Advanced Cloth Figure Painting | Drawing the nude is a challenge; dressing it is an art form. This advanced course focuses on the complex relationship between the human form and drapery. |
| Advanced Figure Drawing | This course advances observational and anatomical figure drawing skills. Students study complex poses, skeletal and muscular structure, dynamic movement, foreshortening, expressive mark-making, and refined rendering to develop mastery in depicting the human form. |
| Advanced Landscape Painting | The landscape is a challenge of light, atmosphere, and vastness. This advanced course moves beyond the "Blue Sky, Green Grass" formula. |
| Advanced Materials | In the world of 3D, a model is only as good as its surface. This course explores "Look Development" (LookDev) and the creation of photorealistic digital materials. |
| Advanced Mold Making Techniques | This technical course is the bridge between a unique sculpture and mass production. Students will explore the science of replication, learning to create complex molds for sculpture, product design, and prototyping. |
