Advanced 3D Modelling
This advanced course focuses on character modelling and rigging using Autodesk Maya. Students will explore accurate character proportions, clean topology, high‑quality texturing, shader application, and efficient rigging. The course emphasizes production workflows and prepares students to present a fully modelled, textured, rigged, and rendered character from multiple scenes and angles.
- Create anatomically accurate 3D characters with clean topology.
- Apply advanced texturing and shader techniques for realism.
- Build efficient rigs for character poseability including IK/FK systems.
- Set up appropriate lighting and cameras for character presentation.
- Render fully textured and rigged models from multiple angles professionally.
The whole semester.
- 01Introduction to Advanced 3D & Maya Character Workflows
- 02Anatomy for 3D Character Modelling
- 03Polygon Modelling: Head & Facial Topology
- 04Polygon Modelling: Torso, Arms, Legs
- 05Hands & Feet: Complex Surface Modeling
- 06Retopology for Clean Edge Flow
- 07UV Mapping & Seam Placement for Characters

- 16Rendering with Arnold and Multi-Angle Outputs
Midterm around session 8. Final project briefed at session 8 or 9 and developed in stages until the juries.
Students will create a fully developed 3D character with correct proportions and clean topology. The character must be:
Textured and shaded appropriately
Rigged for basic posing (including IK/FK controls)
Presented in multiple scenes and camera angles
Rendered professionally using Maya’s Arnold renderer
Evaluation Criteria
- Anatomical accuracy and topology quality
- Texturing detail and shader quality
- Rig functionality and control systems
- Lighting, camera composition, and render quality
- Overall polish and presentation consistency
| 2D Animation | A comprehensive introduction to the foundational principles and practical techniques of 2D animation. This course covers the 12 Principles of Animation, character design, storyboarding, and digital production pipelines. |
| 3D Animation Director | This capstone leadership course prepares students to steer a 3D production from concept to completion. Bridging the gap between creative vision and technical reality, students will learn to direct animators, manage the "Pipeline," and make critical artistic decisions. |
| 3D Environment Artist | An environment artist does more than place trees; they are the architects of virtual worlds. This course teaches the "Modular Workflow," where students create versatile kits of walls, floors, and props that can be assembled into vast, seamless levels. |
| 3D Modeling & Animation Techniques | This course provides a comprehensive introduction to 3D modeling for digital artists, focusing on professional object creation, surface modeling, lighting, and rendering workflows. |
| 3D Modeling for Interior Architects | This specialized course equips interior designers with the digital skills to translate 2D floor plans into immersive 3D environments. |
| 3D Pen Modeling & Sculpture | "Drawing in thin air." This hands-on studio course explores the bridge between 2D illustration and 3D prototyping using 3D printing pens. |
